Where are power converters used in Smart Substation? They are mainly used in monitoring and protection device for detection and protection. In most applications, AC/DC converters and DC/DC converters are used for power conversion and signal isolation, to offer an isolated and stable voltage to the control circuit.

 

Power converters in monitoring and protection devices in electric power systems are needed to convert the mains supply to lower DC voltage to drive the control circuit, so isolation and reliability of the converters are significant for the safety of the control unit. Also, signal isolation is very important to suppress interference and realize clean signal output for error detection and protection.

Typical structure of online monitoring (microprocessor protection device)

The system transmits the signal to MCU through processing circuit. On one hand, it is displayed and protected by MCU; on the other hand, it is transmitted to the engineer station by MCU to be saved, analyzed, processed, alarmed, etc.

● By using AC-DC converter LH20-10B0524-02, the host power supply part meets the isolation transmission from high to low input voltage, meanwhile low input voltage restrains the impact of main power supply circuit from relay and other operation components because of isolation and dual outputs.
● Generally, there are dual outputs of signal processing circuit, so A0515S-1WR2 with output of ±15V can well ensures the reliability.
● Communication circuit will isolate the power supply and signal to ensure the accuracy, B0505LS-1WR2 has the 5 VDC input pass through isolation to generate an isolated 5VDC output to power supply the circuit.
